IPC - History

History of the IPC

'IPC' stands for International Permaculture Convergence, it is a gathering of practitioners of permaculture from around the world, people who are working with nature to design a better world. IPCs started back in 1984 in Australia, and is the key global meeting point for the international permaculture network. It is fully self-financed, so donations and sponsorships are greatly appreciated!

With no formal international Permaculture body, IPCs have been one of the few opportunities to have discussions in person about strategy, educational standards, research, developments in practice, and regional / global development. They have also been a way to highlight best practice in specific environments, and to celebrate and promote permaculture in the host country.

The IPC Support Group has been helping IPC hosts and managing the process of choosing the next host. The 'Friends of IPC', is a group supported by Inquiring Systems International, to help the IPC raise funds and take tax deductible donations to support future events and scholarships and develop and maintain an IPC website to hold the records of previous events.

In September 2015 the Support group together with the FIPC (Friends of International Permaculture) founded the International Permaculture Conference Council - IPCC.

FIPC and IPCC are working together to support the development of the International Permaculture Convergences as well as to support the hosts.
